Fielding - The under-arm throw - 2





The purpose of this drill is to correct the technique of pick-up and releasing the ball while in movement.



Drill 1:

  • The field is marked with a start line and target line
  • A ball is rolled towards the fielder who has to start from the start line and has to collect the ball before it reached the target line
  • The fielder has to place his foot on the side of the ball and picks it up with his throwing arm
  • After picking the ball he places his foot in front to balance himself and releases the ball to hit the target
Drill 2: 

  • The field is marked with a start line and different target line
  • A coach rolls the ball towards the fielder who has to start from the mark and has to collect the ball before it reached the target line
  • The fielder has to reach back to the start point, by then the next ball is rolled to the different target line
  • The fielder has to place his foot on the side of the ball and picks it up with his throwing arm
  • After picking the ball he places his foot in front to balance himself and releases the ball to hit the target
  • This process is continued for 5 times and the fielder has to be quick enough to move back and forth and left and right to collect and hit the target
