Fielding Position Part 6

Square Leg:

Square leg is normally placed near the leg umpire and it is square of the wicket
The position should have quick reflexes and sharp catching technique and cutting quick singles.

Few variations in this position are:

Short leg: This position is usually occupied by the new member of the fielding side. The fielder in the position has to wear helmet and necessary protection as he/ she will be positioned very close to the batsman to take sharp catches.

Deep square leg: The position is placed back on the boundary to avoid boundary

Backward square: The position is placed slightly behind the line of the wicket.
