Batting Drills – Speed - Part 2


These drills are designed to help the batsman improve their essential skills.

Speed Drills

These are basic warm-up exercises incorporating speed and acceleration.

These training can improve your overall running and will yield you results during 

  • Running between wickets
  • Fielding
  • Covering the ground to take high catches
  • Stopping a boundary in the outfield

Find some warm up drills to be performed to improve speed.


This drill is designed to improve your speed and concentration.

  • Player are taken in even numbers and are split into two groups
  • These groups stand opposite to each other and the team members stand behind each player
  • A player at the front of one row starts by throwing a ball at the person opposite to him
  • The moment he throws the ball, he sprints behind the players in his row to the end of the line
  • This is repeated until a certain number of throws are completed.


  • The player is asked to sprint over the cones that are kept at shorter distance
  • While they are running the coach throws or runs the ball to the field
  • The player has to cover the ground, collect the ball and throw it back to the coach
  • He then runs back to the starting point
  • This drill is ideally suitable if there are more than 6 players so that they is enough time to take your breath.
